How Care Works
1.
Psychiatry works best when it is personal and attentive. It requires time, context, and a physician who knows the patient well. Huntington Psychiatry was built to preserve this approach, with care that is direct, unhurried, and personally managed by the physician. Every patient is evaluated and treated one-on-one by the doctor at each visit.
Initial Psychiatric Evaluation
2.
Care typically begins with a one-hour comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This is a detailed, unhurried assessment designed to understand the full clinical picture—not just current symptoms. The evaluation explores personal and medical history, prior treatments and responses, patterns over time, and current concerns and goals.
Diagnosis is approached as a working foundation rather than a fixed label. When appropriate, evaluation may extend beyond a single visit to allow for greater accuracy and context.
Each initial appointment is considered a one-time consultation. The purpose of this visit is to clarify diagnosis, discuss clinical impressions, and review treatment options and recommendations. The initial visit is structured to be clinically meaningful on its own.
There is no obligation to continue beyond the initial consultation. Some individuals seek a one-time diagnostic opinion or treatment review, while others choose to continue care over time. A doctor–patient treatment relationship is established if we mutually decide to proceed and it is clinically appropriate. If so, treatment may begin at the initial visit.
Areas of Focus
3.
Dr. Yeh treats a range of psychiatric conditions, with care tailored to the individual rather than a diagnosis alone. Common areas of focus include:
Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, panic, and social anxiety
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related conditions
Depressive disorders
Bipolar spectrum disorders
Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders
Autism spectrum conditions (including Asperger-type presentations)
Trauma- and stress-related conditions
Sleep and circadian rhythm disorders
Women’s mental health concerns across the lifespan, including reproductive, hormonal, and role-related transitions
Men’s mental health concerns, including mood, anxiety, identity, and role-related stressors
Marital, relationship and family-related difficulties that affect mood, anxiety, or functioning
Life transitions and role changes, including work, caregiving, separation, or loss
Complex or overlapping presentations requiring diagnostic clarification
This list is not exhaustive. Treatment decisions are based on a comprehensive evaluation and clinical judgment, rather than diagnosis alone.
Ongoing Psychiatric Care
4.
For patients who choose to continue after the initial psychiatric evaluation, follow-up care emphasizes careful medication management, longitudinal understanding, and clinical continuity.
Treatment decisions are made deliberately and revisited over time. The focus is not rapid changes or algorithm-driven adjustments, but sustainable improvement, clarity, and overall functioning. Appointments are structured to allow meaningful discussion rather than brief check-ins.
There are no contracts or long-term commitments. Patients are free to discontinue care at any time, and follow-up is guided by clinical need and individual preference rather than a predetermined schedule.
Medication Management with Psychotherapy
5.
In select cases, Dr. Yeh works with patients through psychotherapy alone, without the use of medication, when clinically appropriate.
In other cases, Dr. Yeh provides integrated psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment, combining medication management with physician-led psychotherapy.
While increasingly uncommon in modern times, this legacy model reflects a classical psychiatric tradition in which diagnosis, medication decisions, and psychological understanding develop together over time under the care of a single physician.
Dr. Yeh has advanced training and extensive experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Additional therapeutic approaches are incorporated selectively, based on clinical need. When psychotherapy is used, it is integrated directly into the overall treatment, shaping diagnosis, medication decisions, and long-term clinical strategy.
Psychotherapy, whether provided alone or in combination with medication, is offered selectively, based on clinical appropriateness and mutual agreement. It is not a default expectation, and not all patients require or benefit from this approach.
Medication Use
6.
Medication is considered carefully and used when clinically appropriate. Not every patient requires medication, and no treatment is initiated without discussion. When medication is used, decisions are guided by effectiveness and tolerability, long-term implications, interaction with lifestyle, stressors, and overall health. Medication is never treated as a shortcut or a substitute for understanding the person receiving it.
Consultation & Second Opinions
7.
Dr. Yeh offers psychiatric consultation and second opinions for individuals or referring clinicians seeking diagnostic clarification or review of treatment plans—particularly in complex or unclear cases. Consultations may be one-time or time-limited, depending on the situation and clinical goals.
Format & Access
8.
Appointments are available in person at the Pasadena office and via secure telehealth, depending on clinical appropriateness. In select cases, home visits may be arranged when clinically indicated. Care is provided directly by Dr. Yeh at every visit, without delegated or substitute care. There are no subscriptions, retainers, packages, or long-term commitments; patients are free to return as needed.
Fees & Insurance
9.
Huntington Psychiatry is an out-of-network practice and does not accept insurance or Medicare. This structure allows care to remain unhurried, flexible, and clinically independent.
Payment is due at the time of service. Appointments are scheduled and billed individually. A detailed receipt (superbill) is provided for patients who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance company. Many PPO plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services, though benefits and reimbursement amounts vary by plan.
Confidentiality
10.
Confidentiality is central to this practice. Care is designed to be discreet, contained, and handled directly by the physician. Information is not shared without explicit consent, except in rare situations required by law, such as imminent risk of harm or severe incapacity.
This practice is intentionally structured to minimize unnecessary exposure, third-party involvement, and administrative handling, preserving privacy and discretion for those who require a higher standard of confidentiality.
Cancellations
11.
Appointments require 24 hours’ notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations are charged in full.
